CLINICAL PRACTICE  1

Traditionally patients presenting back pain are subject to the medical model whereby similar causation of their symptoms (inflammation and/or pain) is diagnosed.

Drug prescription becomes a standard approach for most patients although GPs are suggesting OTC medication at the initial consultation.

Little deference is paid to the patient as an individual.  NHS therapy is often delivered to groups of patients no matter their clinical presentation, morphology, age or personal ability to achieve pain relief.

NHS funded sole practitioner services exist but continuity of care is frequently  minimal.

Affective reassurance is ubiquitous.

Some of the fault here lies with service commissioners and not always with the service provider.
